chapter one · the confession read me first

we are caffeinated
enough already.

we don't want to sell you another energy drink. we don't want to sell you a calm chew that asks you to drink less coffee. you're already three coffees deep. so are we. cojo isn't here to fix that — it's here to take the edges off the third one so the fourth one doesn't have to be a panic attack with milk in it.

I wanted to think clearly.

I started COJO because I was tired — not the kind of tired coffee fixes. Tired of being wired. Tired of the pop, the crash, the 3 p.m. fog that cost me the evening.

There's a molecule for that — L-theanine. It's been around for a thousand years. I just needed to figure out how to get it to coffee drinkers like me.

Four cups by lunch. Frazzled by six.

I was working in finance, reaching for a coffee every time I hit a wall. Four, five cups some days. By the afternoon I was wired. By the evening I was frazzled.

I wanted to understand why. I started reading — properly reading — about what caffeine actually does in the body. What I found surprised me: it wasn't the coffee that was the problem. It was my overreliance on it. Caffeine isn't a villain. But lean on it too hard, and the good parts — the focus, the lift — start to fade, and everything else gets louder. The jitter. The crash. The frayed edge at 4 p.m.

What I actually needed wasn't more caffeine. It was something that would make the coffee I was already drinking work better, and last longer. Something that took the edge off without taking the energy off.

That's when I found L-theanine. An amino acid found in green tea, naturally paired with caffeine — the reason a cup of matcha feels steady where a double espresso feels urgent.
— On finding the molecule

The science was solid. But I didn't want another capsule. Capsules felt clinical. Something you take because you're broken.

I wanted something smaller. Something you chew at your desk, between calls, at a traffic light. Something that felt like a habit, not a prescription.

Isaac. Founder.

Spent years in finance running on four coffees and optimism. The crash always came.
